Background Dr Collins Ohwonigho Adjekuko hails from Uduophori
Town in Patani Local Government Area of Delta state. He started his professional career as a
Medical Laboratory Scientist with the Federal Medical Centre Asaba, Delta State in, 2001. In
2005, he transferred his service to the Delta State Hospitals Management Board, Asaba as a
Senior Medical Laboratory Scientist from where he rose to become a Chief Medical Laboratory
Scientist until January 5th, 2022. With a burning desire to pursue a new career path and build
human capacity, he joined the services of the University of Delta, Agbor as Lecturer 1 in the
department of Biological Sciences on January 6th, 2022.
He was inducted as a Fellow of the West African Postgraduate College of Medical Laboratory
Sciences (FWAPCMLS), Faculty of Blood Transfusion Science in 2021, and a Fellow of the
Association of Medical Laboratory Scientists of Nigeria (FAMLSN) in 2022. He is certified by the Sandia National Laboratories on Packaging and Shipping of Infectious substances. He is a member of Nigeria Biological Safety Association (NiBSA), Haematology and Blood Transfusion Scientists Society of Nigeria (HBTSSN) and Guild of Private Medical Laboratory Directors
(GMLD). He is experienced in Logistics Management of HIV/AIDS Commodities, HIV Diagnosis and Monitoring, and Good Laboratory Practice (GLP).
Dr Collins Ohwonigho Adjekuko is happily married to Mrs. Ofejiro Ufuoma and blessed with four children.
Education Dr Collins Ohwonigho Adjekuko obtained a Doctor of Philosophy degree (PhD) in Haematology
and Blood Transfusion Science from the University of Benin in 2019. His Master of Science
(MSc) degree was also in Haematology & Blood Transfusion Science in 2014 and a Bachelors of
Medical Laboratory Science (B.MLS) degree in 1998 both at the Rivers State University of
Science and Technology, Port-Harcourt. His PhD Dissertation was on etiology of early onset
thrombocytopenia among apparently healthy newborn and associated risk factors in Delta State,
Nigeria. This led to the discovery of a high prevalence in this locality and a basis for further
studies. His research interest include Haematology of the newborn, Transfusion Science,
Molecular diagnosis and Neonatal Thrombocytopenia. As a researcher, he has published several
articles in reputable International and local peer-review journals and these can be accessed on
ResearchGate, ORCID and Google scholar. He has also peer-reviewed several manuscripts and
abstracts for publications in Journals and conference presentations.
