Background Dr. Thelma Ewere Konyeme is a Plant Scientist. Her research interest is in Plant taxonomy, chemotaxonomy and molecular evaluation of germplasm. As a Plant taxonomist whose research interest has been on underutilized legumes, she has identified some gaps in the course of her research on the indigenous crop- African Yam Bean (Sphenostylis stenocarpa). Dr. Konyeme is determined to improve the awareness of Nigerians on the edibility of the tuber which is a neglected part, therefore she has pitch her research interest on the utilization of the tuber of African Yam Bean (AYB). She has research collaborators with successful scientist in the field area of Underutilized crops especially AYB in some institutions in Nigeria. She has a great passion for productive research that will enhance food and income security, believing that a renewed focus on underutilized crops will promisingly sustain food and nutritional security. Dr. Konyeme belongs to various professional bodies in Nigeria, amongst them are: Botanical Society of Nigeria (BOSON), Society for Underutilized Legumes (SUL) and Biotechnology Society of Nigeria (BSN). Dr. Konyeme began her lecturing career at the University of Delta, Agbor as Lecturer II in 2022. She has authored several papers in International and Local in Peer-Review Journals.
Education Dr. Thelma Ewere Konyeme is a Plant Scientist. She holds a bachelor’s degree B.Sc. (Hons.) in Plant Science and Biotechnology (2013), Master’s degree (M.Sc. ) 2017 and PhD (2021) in Plant Taxonomy and Biosystematics from the University of Port Harcourt, Rivers State, Nigeria. Out of her curiosity to be standardized in the Education profession, She obtained a Diploma in Education from Ignatius Ajuru University of Education, Rumuolumeni- Rivers State, in 2019. She also has professional certificate in Health, Safety and Environment (General and level 3) in 2013.
