Background Dr. Mrs. Ifeanyi Mirian Oyem, the Pioneer Ag. Dean of the Faculty of Science is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Biological Sciences (Microbiology Unit) in the University of Delta, Agbor Delta State. Nigeria. She is an Alumnus of the great University of Benin, where she obtained her M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees in Environmental and Public Health Microbiology and the University of Calabar where she bagged a B.Sc. (Hons) in Microbiology with a 4.39 aggregate and emerging as the best graduating student in the Department of Biological Sciences in the 1998/1999 session. Dr. Mrs. Oyem has over 20 publications to her credit in national and international journals. She is a member of Applied Environmental Bioscience and Public Health Research Group (AEBPH RG) with researchers from different scientific backgrounds. She also belongs to many academic/professional organizations including the International Society of Microbial Ecology (ISME), Associate Member of the American Society of Microbiology (ASM), the Nigerian Society of Microbial Ecology (NSME) and the Nigerian Society of Microbiology (NSM). Dr. Oyem has attended conferences, seminars, workshops and delivered talks on scientific and secular issues within Nigeria and in her immediate community. Her areas of interest include metagenomics, waste management, environment & public health, toxicology and biopesticides. Oyem is a prolific writer, avid reader, widely travelled scholar and a social media analyst, whose motivation is her drive for excellence in life and academics; contributing meaningfully to humanity in the service of God. She is married to Dr. H.H. Oyem, the Pioneer Head of Department, Chemical Sciences of the same Faculty and University. The union is blessed with three boys.
